Puerto Pollensa Guide
Quiet, unspoilt and utterly unforgettable – Puerto Pollensa has become one of Majorca’s most magical summer spots, where you are guaranteed time to unwind and enjoy some of the best things in life – peace and relaxation.
Background
Set onto Pollensa bay and surrounded by the Tramuntana mountain range. This was once a small fishing village, but like every other town in Majorca it has taken advance of the islands booming tourist industry and is now a popular holiday resort. However strict planning regulations have meant that the resort has grown very little in the last 50 years and still remains a traditional Majorcan town which gives it its charm and keeps people coming back year after year.
If you looking for a high octane holiday this resort is not for you, head to the south of the island instead. Primarily aimed at older couples and families with very young children Puerto Pollensa has relaxation and fun written all over it. Come here to unwind and think about nothing else. The resort has some great bars, but there are no nightclubs worth talking about so things quieten down at around midnight when the bars close.
The resort has two main beaches, the pine walk beach and one past the marina. The pine walk is about 2 kilometers long, lined with traditional Majorcan villas and has a stunning tree lined beach. A truly magical place and best experienced in the afternoon and early evening. It is also ideal if your not into intense sun as you can shade under one of the trees that line it.
The beach at the other end of the resort offers a range of water sports – so head there if you want to try your hand at windsurfing, watersking or scuba diving.
Eating out is not a problem either. There are a wealth of restaurants to satisfy every taste and budget. One of the best places to head to for lunch or in the early evening is the town square which is lined with affordable cafes and bars. Every Wednesday the square becomes host to the weekly market where you can pick up fruit and vegetables, cheese, meat and flowers all produced on the island. It doesn’t get much fresher than this!
Places To Stay
Puerto Pollensa has a handful of large apartment completes but not too many to spoil the resort.
What gives it real charm are hotels like the Illa D’or Hotel at the end of the Pine Walk and the Miramar hotel, both of which stand testament to a bygone era. You don’t need to stay at them to take appreciate them thought, one of the best places to sit and have a drink in the evening is the outside bar at the Illa D’or hotel and visit the Miramar courtyard to snap a picture of the amazing flower display.
