What time of year were you camping in NZ? I would like to do a tramp like the Milford track or Hump track, but I am hitting the South Island in October and it just isn't safe to go out there, especially with my 7 year old daughter, no matter how competent she is in the outdoors. We will be doing the Tongariro Crossing however. And some short day hikes in Abel Tasman. Chrisp,
