5 Must See Places in the UK
Visits to the United Kingdom are often limited to a few days or weeks in London, and the capital is certainly able to hold the interest of visitors over the course of a full vacation or business trip. But there are many other exciting areas to explore within the UK, some of which are all too often neglected by those on holiday. From major cities to rural landmarks, some of the UK’s best travel destinations are included below.
Manchester City
Manchester is quickly becoming one of the most prominent cities within the United Kingdom, and rewards visitors with one of the most vibrant and exciting music scenes in the UK. A city with a large student population and several recent renovation and building projects that have resulted in many verdant parks and interesting buildings, Manchester offers excellent people-watching and sight-seeing, all within a reasonable distance from London itself. The city’s Chinatown district and its Gallery of English Costume make can be especially diverting.
The Giant’s Causeway
The Giant’s Causeway, located in Northern Ireland, is a must-see geological feature for many of the UK’s visitors, and is famous for its startling landscape of geometric rock formations. Overlooking the sea and framed by lush green fields, the site is one of the most attractive in the UK, and is well worth a visit. Recent projects by local conservation experts are working towards the creation of a more eco-friendly tour of the area.
Hadrian’s Wall
Hadrian’s Wall is another important feature set within the UK, and can make for a truly special experience for those interested in Roman history. The wall can be seen in a number of rural areas, though reaching the wall from Newcastle upon Tyne is a popular route.
Birmingham
The city of Birmingham is home to a sizable network of canals that easily dwarfs the famous waterways of Venice, and is a romantic and entertaining UK destination. Visitors can tempt themselves with a trip to Cadbury’s chocolate, and can explore the many museums and well-manicured parts dotted throughout the city.
Liverpool
Awarded the European Capital of Culture in 2008, Liverpool presents travelers with exciting art and music scenes, and fans of The Beatles are likely to appreciate their home city’s extensive tribute. The picturesque Pier Head Waterfront is an UNESCO World Heritage site, and plenty of comedy clubs and theatres are on call to entertain visitors of every taste.
To get a feel for the true culture and spirit of the United Kingdom, travelers can reach beyond the brightly-lit limits of London and get to know the many cities and sites that help comprise the genuine character of the UK.

I would have preferred to see Cambridge in the list ahead of Birmingham. It has a richer history than Birmingham, and the nightlife is fantastic. Saying that, the Cadbury’s factory might swing it for me
Thank you for the post and sharing. This weekend it was definitely worth taking time off and spending some quality time with the family. Something that everybody should have taken advantage of and even the staycationer will think about how to plan the upcoming weekend.
You missed Edinburgh in your list. Definetely a place to visit on every holiday to the UK!
The castle, the history, William Walace and the amazing landscapes.
