Travelling to London for some holiday sightseeing can be lot of fun. However disabled people don’t often have the freedom to be able to go where they want when they want. Having said this London is a very accommodating city and caters well for people in wheelchairs as well as disabled vehicles like mobility scooters.
The British Museum in London is a great destination and is worth visiting for its amazing roof and design alone. There are many lifts to use throughout the museum and leaflets are also provided to aid those that require them. People with sight and sound disabilities are also catered for at the museum.
There are numerous other museum in London that have been setup to accommodate wheelchair users. Some of the most notable include the Natural History Museum, The Victoria & Albert Museum as well as The National Maritime Museum.
The London Eye is one of London’s most recent major attractions and is on most people’s top 3 list when they choose to visit the English capital. Not only is the London eye wheelchair accessible the operators are also able to stop the wheel completely to ensure safe entry and exit. You will need to book wheelchair spaces in advance and there is a limit of two wheelchairs for every capsule.
Madame Tussauds the famous wax works museum offers good accessibility for people in wheelchairs. You will be able to visit all exhibits on show with the exception of the Spirit of London ride. Madame Tussauds has a limit of three wheelchairs at any one time, so in general it is best to book tickets for this in advance.
One of the most enjoyable destinations to visit especially if you have kids with you is the Science Museum. With many hands on exhibits the Science Museum makes for a great day out and everything except the rides plus the flight and ships gallery is wheelchair accessible.
A visit to London would not be complete without visiting the Tate Modern. The art gallery has very good facilities for people with all kinds of disabilities not just those in wheelchairs.
Other sights worth visiting include the well known and historic Tower of London which does have some suggested route for wheelchair users.
