Unique Things to Do In America

Grand CanyonAmerica is a vast nation of diverse landscapes and cultural influences that offers so much to see and do. But there are some things that are uniquely American. Here a few that you might like to try on your next visit.

A Mississippi Riverboat cruise

Take a leisurely cruise on the Mississippi River following the route of Mark Twain’s famous character, Huckleberry Finn. Huck made his journey on a raft, but you can travel aboard a traditional paddle-wheeler. America’s longest river winds its way through several states from its headlands in Minnesota until it meets the sea in Louisiana.

A Stay at a Dude Ranch

Dude ranch vacations are a chance for city folk to savor the real Western lifestyle; with opportunities to ride horses, drive cattle and enjoy cowboy culture and cuisine. These ranches can be found in every Western state including Texas, Arizona, Colorado, Wyoming and Montana. You can find dude ranches that cater to families, couples or people who really want to get some hands on experience on how a ranch is run. You can count on plenty of fresh air, blue skies and an unforgettable experience.

A Fall Foliage Tour in New England

Every year in September and October, Northern New England becomes a riot of autumn colour, as the trees change colour en masse. The brilliant red of the area’s signature sugar maples blends with the yellow, gold and orange of other species to create a breathtaking vista.

A Whale Watching Trip in Alaska

The nutrient rich waters off the coast of Alaska are a mecca for all kinds of marine life including several species of whale. Gray, Blue, Humpback and migrant pods of Orca Whales migrate from the warm waters of Mexico and Hawaii to their summer habitat in Prince William Sound. Minke and Beluga Whales are permanent residents in the area.

A Visit to The National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas

Every year the best cowboys and cowgirls in the world converge on Las Vegas during the first ten days of December, to test their skills in bareback riding, steer wrestling, team roping, saddle bronc riding, tie-down roping (formerly known as calf roping), bull riding and ladies barrel racing. For the competitors, they have traveled thousands of miles competing in rodeos throughout North America to reach the National Finals; the pinnacle of their season. While the rodeo is in town, Las Vegas turns into cowboy central.

Walk the Sky at the Grand Canyon

On the Hualapai Indian Reservation in northwest Arizona, you’ll find the Grand Canyon’s latest attraction, a unique glass bottomed Skywalk platform, which juts over the canyon’s rim, suspended more than twelve hundred meters above the silver thread of the Colorado River, running through the deep canyon floor below. The Skywalk offers a bird’s eye view of the tribe’s sacred canyon formation known as Eagle Point. In the adjacent outdoor amphitheater you’ll be treated to Native American song and dance performances.

These are just a sampling of the unique experiences that America has to offer. From spectacular wilderness areas to music festivals, sporting events and amusement parks, America has something to thrill even the worldliest traveler.
